Learn Something New

Many of us have been forced to stay home, others may be staying home by choice. Our daily lives are not the same. So what can you do while you are at home? Sure you can binge watch tv shows. Or watch a ton of movies. This may be entertaining but when its all over with what will you accomplish? You may be able to answer random questions regarding the show(s) or movies. But will this get you ahead in life? It may, but what can you do that has a higher probability to push you further in life? You can learn something new. What have you always wanted to learn but “did not have time” to do so? Now is your opportunity, you have been given a gift of time, don’t let it go to waste.

Set aside some time each day that you will dedicate to learn something new, yes you can still add in your binge watching but the more time you can set aside to learn something the further you will be.

The internet is full of resources, YouTube has a ton of channels full of how tons. There are even schools that are offering free courses so you can expand your horizons.

If you are stuck and don’t know what to start studying. Start off by thinking about subjects you are interested. If you have a journal, you can look back into the journals to see if there is anything you wrote down that talks about what you want to learn. Think about when you were a kid and the things you wish you could do then. Look back the last couple of years and see what subjects interested you. Think about future trips you want to go. Do you want to learn anything about the places you plan on visiting? Look back to your formal education days, were there any classes that you enjoyed? Were there any classes you wished you could take?

Below are some suggestions to get you started:

Cooking

Baking

Card games

Painting

Wood working

Writing

History

Geography

Science

Art

Science

Auto mechanics

Gardening

Sports

Magic

Religious studies

Reading

The above is just to get you thinking but not an exhaustive list, obviously there is a ton of stuff that can be done.

Recently I baked my first loaf of bread. Was it awesome, no, the experience was, the bread, it was edible, but it was not awesome. Has it inspired me to bake more, you betcha. In fact I have been scoring recipes and ideas to see what I can come up with.

I am also looking at different styles of cooking so I can expand my repertoire with that.

So if you have been given additional time to be at home, take advantage of it. Who knows, the time you carve out may create a learning habit that will continue when you are no longer required to stay in.
