Goal Checklist — What do you need to help you on your journey

My parents walked into my room and said, James guess what? Loving guessing games as much as the next guy I said what? “Guess!” They said, well I don’t want to guess just tell me. “We are going to Disney World!” Excitement filled my body and I jumped for joy, yippy! I said.

My parents went on to tell me that my grandparents would be traveling down in their RV and we would all ride with them to Florida. How awesome is this I thought, I road trip in an RV, with my grandparents, my parents and my sister. I could not wait.

So we all had the destination, now it was time to plan. What did we needed to take with us, what did we need to do before we left, was there any obstacles that could get in our way and we may need assistance, if so who could we lean on.

We looked at the weather forecasts to determine the type of clothes we needed. Check.

We looked at the map to see what path we would take. We carefully looked for obstacles that we wanted to avoid, road closures, major cities with traffic issues, and because my grandmother did not like traveling over bridges, we looked for routes that avoided them as much as possible. We had our route planned. Check.

We looked at activities we could do on the way, inside the RV and places to stop. We looked at what type of activities we wanted to do once we got to Disney World. We looked at what we wanted to eat, did we want to stop or, since we had a kitchen, bring food to prepare as we go. We took all this into account and prepared a budget. Getting cash and being prepared with expenses. Check

We looked around the house and made a checklist of what we needed to do before we left, cut the grass, clean the house, turn off the water, and inform our neighbors of our departure, stopping the mail, setting electric timers for the lights. Pre-departure checklist. Check

When my grandparents arrived we did a once over on the RV, oil, tire pressure, fuel, we reviewed all major systems, we did not want a breakdown. Transportation read? Check.

We then wrote down the names and phone numbers of friends and family that were near our route, we had our AAA card. We made sure that in case we had a problem we had people to call. Helpers? Check.

This process went smooth and fast, we did not need run into any major issues and we made it to our destination, had a great time, and made it back.

This same process can be used for any goal that you set for yourself. It is vital to prepare yourself beforehand so you are ready for anything. A list also encouraged us and kept our excitement level high. We could not wait to leave, and even on the road we could not wait to get to Disney World. This process can help you stay excited as you journey on to your destination.

Recap:

When setting a goal make a list of what you need to get you there.

What obstacles could you face? How can you overcome the obstacles if faced with them?

Who do you need help from to accomplish your goal?

What equipment, supplies, or skills will you need?

What do you need to get done before you start your goal?
